How does Zoogmo work?
Zoogmo is secure and easy to use. It operates by backing up your data over the internet or within a LAN to your own computers or the computers of your trusted friends, family and colleagues.

Why should I use Zoogmo?
Zoogmo gives you free, unlimited offsite backup. No monthly fees to use some company’s bandwidth and servers since we efficiently use disc space you have and bandwidth you are already paying for. Where else can you get so much goodness for free?

How much can I backup?
With Zoogmo beta you can backup unlimited amounts of data with an unlimited number of partners, for free.

How secure are my files?
Before your files leave your computer, they are fully encrypted and remain that way crossing the internet and while stored on your partners’ computers. No one but you, neither Zoogmo nor your backup partners, has access to your data. In fact, they won’t even be able to tell what types of files you are storing on their computer.

How secure is the encryption?
We use the latest and greatest encryption technology based on a combination of Triple-DES and AES 256 - giving your data the highest level of security. According to experts, it would take billions of dollars and years of effort to break the code.

Where are my files stored?
Your data can be backed up to any computer running Windows XP or 2003 with a broadband connection and Zoogmo software installed on it. Each partner chooses for themselves which drive they would like to use for storing their friends’ files, including external hard drives and USB flash drives. After you and your backup partners agree to backup to each other, you are ready to safely backup your data.

What if a partner’s computer has a virus?
No worries. The encryption and compression process that happens before backup disables viruses and makes sure they cannot spread to your computer. We do recommend that you practice safe computing and encourage all of your partners to install and run anti-virus software.

How often is my data backed up?
Zoogmo works in the background to backup your files automatically and to keep them backed up. Zoogmo will let you know when you are fully backed up or if there are any problems requiring your attention. Once you have selected which types of files you want to backup, you can pretty much sit back and feel good about yourself knowing that you have done the right thing.

Should I leave my computer on all the time?
No. Your first backup may take some time depending on how many files you want to back up. That process will go much faster if you and your partners leave your computers running and online during that time.Subsequent incremental backups go much faster and Zoogmo will begin backup as soon as both computers are online.

What happens if the connection is interrupted during file transfer?
No problem. We have a built-in retry mechanism to automatically get you reconnected. If for some reason we can’t get you reconnected at that time, backup will continue from where it left off the next time you and your partner are both on-line.

How long does it take to backup my files?
The time will vary depending on your internet connection speed and the size of the data files you wish to backup. Once the initial backup is complete, things go really fast since future backups are done incrementally, meaning that only new and changed files will be backed up.

How do I restore my files?
If you are starting with a new computer and need to do a complete restore of all your data files, just install and run the Zoogmo software and select restore. If some of your backup partners are offline at that time, you can get in touch and ask them to turn on their PC, or Zoogmo will recover the data when they come back online. You can also do a selective restore by choosing individual files if you only need to restore certain files.

How many partners do I need for the best backup?
We recommend that you backup to at least 3 partners. That way, your data is replicated in multiple locations making it even safer. Remember, the more partners you have the greater the chance of a backup target being available. So, as we like to say — the more the merrier!

Will backup get in the way of the other stuff I want to do with my computer?
No. Zoogmo works while your computer is idle to do backups, which means that your other work should not be disturbed at all.

What about firewalls and routers?
In most cases, Zoogmo should work without your having to make changes to your firewall or router. Zoogmo will sometimes trigger firewall software to ask whether you want to allow Zoogmo to access the Internet. Select the option that will always allow it access. Occasionally, firewall software will not prompt you and will block Zoogmo by default. In that case, if your Zoogmo application is not communicating with our servers, you will need to manually configure your firewall. How are these guys going to make money
Currently, Zoogmo is totally free to all users. Future plans include launching a feature-rich, fee-based premium version and development is under way for a really cool backup tool for business owners.

How do I cancel my Zoogmo account?
All you need to do is uninstall the application from your computer.
